Syria calls on UN to seriously combat terrorism

jouhina news,

yria called on the UN and its member states to seriously and truly adhere to combating terrorism and put contexts, adopted for several years, into effect and press countries which support terrorism to stop their violation of international law and UN charter.

“While the UN commemorates the 10th anniversary of adopting resolution No. 1624 for 2005 on banning provocation of violation and terrorism, The Syrian Arab Republic’s government renews its call on the UN and its member states to seriously and truly adhere to combating terrorism and put contexts, adopted for several years, into effect and press countries which support terrorism to stop their violation of international law and UN charter,” Syria’s permanent Envoy to the UN, Dr. Bashar Al-Jaafari said in two letters sent, upon instructions of the Syrian government, to the UN Secretary General and President of Security Council.

“Terrorism which has been targeting Syria, as government and people, since more than 4 years, has reached unprecedented limits in its crimes and brutality as we informed Security Council with the terrorist attacks in Syria, the latest of which, the rocket shells on Damascus and Aleppo and the terrorist explosions in al-Hasaka which took place on September 14th, 2015,” al-Jaafari said.

He expressed regret that some member countries didn’t commit to resolutions No. 1267, 1373, 1624, 2170, 2178 and 2199, saying “while Security council resolutions on counter-terrorism call upon the members states to take a number of legislative and practical measures to combat the plague of terrorism, governments of some member countries, like Saudi Arabia, Turkey and Qatar still offer all forms of support to terrorism and terrorists and still politicize issues of counter-terrorism and deal with them in a scandalized double standards.”

He also called on the UN to put an end to Erdogan’s regime exploitation of the Syrian people’s suffering who were forced to leave home by terrorism and the unilateral, coercive procedures imposed by some countries on Syria.

“The Syrian government affirms that it is impossible to overcome terrorism, represented by the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS) and Jabhat al-Nusra and other al-Qaeda-linked organizations, which pose threat to the international peace and security, without coordination and cooperation with the Syrian government,” al-Jaafari said.

He added that attempts by the US, Britain, France, Canada and Australia to justify their intervention in Syria as combating ISIS, according to Article 51 of the UN charter, without coordination with the Syrian government, is a distortion to the rules of the UN convention and “a manipulation” in the international law to target the Syrian sovereignty.
