The Central Bank of Syria (CBS) on Tuesday resumed selling foreign currency to banks to fund imports, selling USD 8 million at a prince of SYP 175 per USD.
Governor of the Central Bank Adib Mayyaleh told SANA that the CBS also will sell EUR 50 million to exchange companies to finance non-commercial transactions and meet citizens' needs.
He added that the CBS also issued a decision to sell foreign currency to citizens at a price set on daily basis and limited to EUR 1,000 per month to each citizen.
Mayyaleh noted that USD exchange rate in the irregular market dropped by SYP 30 due to the steps taken on Tuesday, asserting that the CBS will continue taking steps to stabilize the exchange rates.
