Governor of Central Bank of Syria Adeb Mayaleh said that amending the law which regulates the work of money-changing companies comes in the framework of the efforts to keep the price of the Syrian pound stable.
"The amendment, approved by the people's Assembly, aims to put an end to acts of manipulations in the money changing market in light of pressures to which the Syrian pound is exposed, Mayaleh said in a statement.
He added that the new draft law tightens punishment for those who practice the money changing profession or those who transfer money from Syria to outside without a license.
"The penalty will become imprisonment from 3 to 10 years with 3 million SYP in minimum as compensation," Mayaleh said.
